Massachusetts 250 Low Number Plate Lottery Now Open – Apply Through April 17, 2026
In celebration of Presidents’ Day and the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence, the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) has officially opened applications for the Massachusetts 250 Low Number Plate Lottery.
According to the RMV, eligible Massachusetts residents can now apply for a chance to win one of the highly sought-after low-number commemorative plates. Applications are being accepted through Friday, April 17, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.
About the “Massachusetts 250 Years of Independence” Plate
The patriotic specialty plate has quickly become the most popular commemorative plate in the Commonwealth, with over 57,000 plates issued in just over seven months, according to the RMV.
Plate Design Features:
-
Red, white, and blue patriotic theme
-
Blue background
-
The year “1776” surrounded by 13 stars
-
“250 Years of Independence” displayed at the bottom
While higher-number plates have been available online since last May as part of the Massachusetts 250 festivities, the RMV is now offering 1,000 low-number plates through this special lottery. Available numbers range from 1–999, including the symbolic 1776.
The RMV is partnering with the Massachusetts State Lottery to conduct the drawing using an electronic random number generator system.
As stated in the RMV press release, Registrar Colleen Ogilvie shared excitement about giving qualified Massachusetts residents the opportunity to win a coveted low-number plate as part of this historic celebration.
