Commercial Driver License CDL – RMV released a update about CDL this week

Note From the RMV :

The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) is announcing that effective Wednesday, November 6, 2024, when a driver’s Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Self Certification expires instead of cancelling the CDL and issuing a Class D passenger license, the CDL privilege will be downgraded.

What is a “Downgrade” to a Credential?

A downgrade means that the commercial learner’s permit (CLP) or commercial driver’s license (CDL) privilege is removed from their license and the driver only has an active Class D passenger driver’s license privilege.

The RMV is replacing the CDL status of “None” (in these cases) with a new CDL “Downgrade” status.

  • This status will display both internally in the RMV’s system ATLAS and externally to business partners that use the business portal, the e-service portal, run a webservice for drivers or receive a file with license status.
  • The new account standing code is DOWNGR, based on the ‘Downgrade’ status that displays in ATLAS.
